to the ABC Commitment 2030
In 2013, Companhia das Lezírias made a commitment to sustainability in the production of its wines, implementing the basic principles of a green economy. It means doing things better, with less environmental impact, less energy and material consumption, less water consumption, less emissions into the environment, less waste production and more respect for the planet.
Environmental sustainability is seen as a factor in innovation and efficiency in the use of resources and competitiveness.
The ABC 2020 Commitment designates the commitment to action in environmental sustainability that Companhia das Lezírias has made until 2020: + Environment+ Biodiversity- Carbon.
Within the scope of CL’s Sustainability Strategy defined for the 2021-2030 timeframe, which was defined in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, the ABC Commitment is resized for a new timeframe (2030) as a project anchored in SDG 12 – Sustainable Production and Consumption, but producing positive impacts on the other SDGs considered priorities in the defined Strategy: Accessible and Renewable Energy, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Climate Action and Protecting Life on Land.
It is within this framework that this new generation of the ABC Commitment emerges, with a greater degree of ambition , especially with regard to decarbonization and climate change mitigation and adaptation throughout the value chain, as well as strengthening the social dimension of sustainability. And because sustainability results from a three-dimensional balance, the creation of economic value is also strengthened, in a society that is increasingly aligned with sustainable consumption patterns.
Maintaining consistency with a rich history and pride in the tradition of an almost bicentennial company, in a symbiosis between tradition, quality, innovation and value creation, the ABC 2030 Commitment assumes as a major goal to rise to the challenges of the decade of action, promoting a green and prosperous economy, where growth and employment are driven by activities that promote the reduction of carbon emissions, energy efficiency and, in the use of resources, the mitigation of biodiversity loss and the optimization of ecosystem services.
BIO wine as part of the ABC Commitment
Tyto alba Biológico wine is further proof of our Commitment to Sustainability.
It comes from a 2-hectare vineyard planted in 2015 and was produced in an even less interventionist way, using techniques with a very low environmental impact in the vineyard and winery, with a focus on sustainability and the preservation of natural resources, helping to mitigate their scarcity through the efficient use of water, soil preservation and the conservation of biodiversity.
Of the 130 hectares of vines planted at Companhia das Lezírias, 128 are under integrated production and 2 under organic production. The ambition for 2030 is to have at least 25% of the vineyard planted in organic production.
But it’s not just for this reason that Tyto alba Biológico wine represents more sustainable, better production and promotes more responsible consumption.
What’ s new is that Tyto alba BIO has been given a new look, which allows it to greatly reduce its ecological footprint. From the bottle, which weighs around 30% less, to the capsules and labels with more ecological options, to the outer packaging, betting on even more biodegradable materials, with less environmental impact and in line with circular economy principles.
And the good news doesn’t end there. There is at least one more piece of good news: the entire Tyto alba family will be proudly wearing this greener clothing. Sustainable production and consumption are the future of our society and our earth. We believe that this is the only possible path and that’s why we’re taking it, with confidence in a future that we want to be increasingly prosperous, respecting Planet and People.
